Remote (2017)

An intimate ritual takes place in the distance, further away than we can venture in person. Yet as the distance grows, blurred shapes and subtle gestures are suddenly distinct. Low murmurs become clear. We are not there, but it feels as though we are. And we are not mere passive witnesses. We can change our experience of this obscure world—by way of the remote.

This durational experiment in interactive, remote-controlled performance, live audience members could see ARCOS’ performance at a distance in person, with a closer vantage available through a projected live video feed and headphones elsewhere on site. Online viewers (both onsite and at home) could control the movement of the livestream camera operator by leaving comments during the two-hour livestream video on Facebook.
