Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jimi Loc Nguyen began his dance training at the age of nineteen at the University of Michigan Department of Dance. At UofM, he pursued a BS in Movement Science and a BFA in Dance. He has studied under Bill DeYoung, Peter Sparling, Judy Rice, Amy West, Robin Wilson, Melissa Beck, Sandra Torijano and Amy Chavasse, and has performed in works with Jessica Fogel and Robin Wilson. At UofM, Jimi has performed in guest artists works such as Lucinda Childs’ Dance 1-5along with Bill T. Jones’ D-man in the Waters. In addition, Jimi has also studied at the Paul Taylor Summer Intensive. Concurrently with his classical training, Jimi is member of EnCore, a hip-hop crew who has won Michigan’s Best Dance Crew 2012-2013, and Dance 2XS at the University of Michigan branch. In 2011 and 2013, Jimi participated in Drum Corp International with The Glassmen and The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps (where he was awarded a bronze medal); he performed as a dance soloist and entertained millions of DCI fans worldwide during the three month touring season in over twenty states.
